Yes, a good point! A real pro can do incredible work on a lousy display.

Because it looks better when calibrated and along with a "by the numbers" approach these two things are pieces to the bigger puzzle.
I think all of this "I'd never use a laptop for anything critical" talk is so silly. You're lucky if you don't have it but there are a lot of pros that have to work on laptop displays - live and die by their laptop displays let's say - while working int he field on time-sensitive jobs and have to send files to their clients electronically right away. Doing incredibly great work on a laptop and having it come out really nice when published is a big part of what it means to be a digital imaging professional for many. Let's not make light of that. The retina displays are incredible, they calibrate well and all of this is an improvement for those pros that rely upon it.
