I think it's pretty clear why this is happening....the Creative Suite has worked pretty damn well (matured) since about CS3/4. The "got to have it" of new functionality and features stopped roughly around that time period, at least in my view. The clamoring to get the latest/greatest version is no longer seen as a necessity and now they have to come up with a new way to generate income.
Even though I own CS6, I honestly can't think of any compelling reason why I upgraded......other than to not lose my ability to still get decent upgrade pricing. Going forward, Lightroom will probably be the only Adobe software I'll continue to keep current. Even then, LR5 is much less compelling than the versions that came before it.
I think ten years ago a subscription-based model would've been a steal.....now not so much. Like the utility companies, once we're all on a subscription basis, what compels them to come up with the latest "got to have it" new feature?
I'm not saying CC is all bad....if I had a graphic design studio with a bunch of designers, I'd jump at CC....but as an individual who only indirectly makes his living from Adobe products, I'm not jumping yet unless they were to change the pricing model.
It'll be interesting to see how all these shakes out....will it succeed or go the way that Windows 8 appears to be going?
Regards,
Terry
