It's called capitalism.
I'm a long term Ayn Rand'ish pro-capitalist from jr. high days. I'm
typically very pro business, or at least willing to think about "walking a
mile in their moccasins". YMMV.
As a retiree and non-pro whose expensive photography isn't a write-off,
their evolving business model isn't a good fit for me. So be it. I'll figure
out other ways to p.p. the 5k to 10k images I take a month. Instead of
"Creative Suite", it'll have to be "Sweet Creativity". (lame ...)
BTW, this seems like potentially a classic case of "disruptive innovation"
where a semi-monopoly with a significant technology lead "shoot's itself in
the foot". Their decision to cater to the most demanding, least
cost-sensitive customers allows a "good enough" competitor (and Moore's Law)
to sweep it into the dustbin of history.
Whew ... even within the Adobe family, there are still plenty of options. I
may switch to PSE, and CC trials every year or so? I've been underwhelmed by
LR4/5, but it may have to be "good enough". Corel?
