Martin,
Re: <<Scanners aren’t just handy, they’re far superior to cameras for reproducing artwork at high resolution.>>
I'd appreciate if you could explain this statement, as it seems like quite a generalization. As you well know, there are scanners and there are scanners, and there are cameras and cameras. No doubt you also know that the advertised resolution of most scanners we commonly use is often well above their optical resolving power when tested with a bespoke resolution testing target.
While film scanning isn't artwork reproduction, it may (or may not) be of some relevance that I have been testing a Sony a6000 with a mated Zeiss Macro lens versus my Nikon SC5000ED and Epson V750 Pro scanners just very recently, and there's no question (to the extent I can read targets reasonably well) that the optical resolving capability of the Sony set-up is better than the Nikon scanner and much better than the Epson. [But this takes us OT relative to the main topic of this thread.]

Scanners aren’t just handy, they’re far superior to cameras for reproducing artwork at high resolution.
How odd to be in a situation where 20 year-old technology is superior to *anything* available today?
