I can recall heated discussions on this list with the late Bruce Fraser who
used to make a living out of doing CMYK adjustments to his client's files.
I'll confess that I used to be very critical of this practice. But with time
and experience, having seen a larger sample of how people work, I have
changed my mind and now believe that it's entirely up to how people are
comfortable working. Some shops, I would *never* trust my work to them, for
doing my color conversions while with some others, I'd be glad to. There are
so many good reasons to isolate boundary lines on both side of the fence as
there are just as many good reasons not to force strict separations of both
side the of the fence. I agree with Andrew and Mark and John and others that
open lines of communications remain the best bet in every circumstances but
it breaks my heart every time to see the damage than can't be undone at the
time we get it our hands on client's files because all they did was dumb
conversions to SWOPv2 :(
I'll rest my case...
Best / Roger
