Hi Angus,

I would guess compiling something the size of an average AU shouldn't take a long time. CW seems to be faster at compiling, but I don't know if it's just faster or if it's also not as efficient.

On another note, I found enabling altivec makes PB take enormously long.

Hard drive speed is also somewhat of an issue. RAM helps as well, as Marc pointed out. You shouldn't need a new computer yet, but Apple does appear to be doing more dual-processor optimizations to things in addition to altivec.

Hi all,

Just a quick question... my TiBook 550 / 256, OS X 10.2, is proving to be
unacceptably slow building AU with ProjectBuilder, and feels very laggy in
general (compared to the same machine running Classic and building VST
plugins [yes, I know VST is simpler than AU], or the similar-specced Wintel
laptop it shares desk space with [which can build a much more complex
DirectX plug in half the time]).

Anyone working with a machine of this sort of spec? I'm wondering if an
extra 256M ram is going to make all the difference or whether I should
start saving up for a new Powerbook (or even a Dual G4 desktop) already :-(

Regards,
Angus.
