You could always start with the USB Audio class driver in Darwin. It
already supports AC-3 on behalf of class compliant devices that support
it (that would be the type III formats in the USB Audio class spec).

For our DVD Player to send AC-3 data to your device, your device has
to say it can handle it by having your driver advertise at least one
available format whose format ID is kIOAudioStreamSampleFormatAC3.
