That looks awfully close to something I experienced where
code was behaving fine on x86 but not on PPC. IIRC it seemed
to be caused by Auto-vectorization (GCC_AUTO_VECTORIZATION,
-ftree-vectorize) being turned on. But we did also end up
modifying the code so that might not be it...
