For the historical record, Fraunhofer did a demo "Query By Humming" in 2004, well before Shazam. It's still there on their web site.

I don't know about Mahler, but there is an MPEG-7 database out there for opera. Ours is pretty good one in several non mainstream genres. One of the dreams of the MPEG-7 standard is that if what you're looking for is not in one database, you can work down a list of more specialized ones.
