that depends entirely on the DAW software in use. put a different way,
the relevance of CPU power depends almost exclusively on how much
signal processing is going on. the actual task of moving data around
between an audio interface and disk is doable by a very old, very slow
system. in contrast, there is no limit to how much CPU you could use
if you chose to (as a user and as a developer).

this is way way way to deep a topic for an introductory question. its
also something not worth wasting time if you are just getting into
audio programming. premature optimization and all that. suffice it to
say that apple's designs have their own greatness and their own
weaknesses, but neither are things that you should be thinking about
at this point, and perhaps not ever.
