I've seen them referenced as "cage nuts", and know they can be ordered in
lots of 50 or more very easily. :)
My group uses Dell PoweEdge racks (square holes) extensively since (duh) we
have lots of Dell rackmounts. Mounting a Dell RapidRail system takes
literally about three minutes, usually including opening the box.
And then there is the "legacy" equipment, including Xservs, that hasn't
caught on to the "square holes are wonderful" phenomenon. Put in 4-8 cage
nuts, screw in the rail sides and/or plates, insert the rackmount. Takes
about 15 minutes per server. Frequently sped up by the blood sacrifices
previously mentioned...
