Linux & BSDs have long been installable on PowerPC Mac's, there
should be no difference with the Intel Mac's, in fact there should be
more versions that are installable. I assume there should be delay
as not all the drivers might be in all the LInux/BSDs for the
hardware in these new machines, but the graphics chips in ThinkPad
and other Intel-based laptops are as not as widely supported in Linux
as one would imagine (given that I know someone that fought that
battle, though things may have improved that does not help people
with older Thinkpads).
If there's a way to make this work, some hacker out there will hack
together a patch for it,
That was done several weeks ago.
but if Apple did it, corporate/government types would be more
willing to allow it.
