But does it do Linux/*BSD? That would be truly elegant
Linux & BSDs have long been installable on PowerPC Mac's, there
should be no difference with the Intel Mac's, in fact there should
be more versions that are installable. I assume there should be
delay as not all the drivers might be in all the LInux/BSDs for the
hardware in these new machines, but the graphics chips in ThinkPad
and other Intel-based laptops are as not as widely supported in
Linux as one would imagine (given that I know someone that fought
that battle, though things may have improved that does not help
people with older Thinkpads).
The major problem I've found trying to run Linux on a PowerBook is
the AirPort Extreme card. Everything else seems to work well except
the partitioning scheme I have to do myself.
When I install on a ThinkPad, most installers (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.)
let me choose to keep the Windows partition and install on the rest
of the disk. I would hope this same behavior would happen with an
installation from an Ubuntu CD on a MacBook Pro (i.e. it lets me keep
the OS X installation and if I have it, Windows installation as well).
If there's a way to make this work, some hacker out there will
hack together a patch for it,
That was done several weeks ago.
For Linux/*BSD on a MacIntel?
FWIW, the bootloader looks much nicer than grub or lilo. =-)
