There is a good possibility Snow Leopard made it out early because of
Windows 7, to beat the MS release date IMHO.

Snow Leopard also shipped about a month earlier than most expected.
Usually when Apple says it will ship in some particular month or
quarter, they ship on the very last day of that month or quarter, so
most of us were expecting Snow Leopard at the very end of September.
Yikes! time to move those projects off the back burner.
