Initially, yes, it was slow as all get out, however, with the most recent beta build, it's pretty reliable. The only thing that I'm still having problems with is, updating all the clients to let them know that there is "new" music in the cloud. And it seems as if one computer will let the cloud know that it has the music, but never uploads it. So you can't access the track from a different computer. Once they get those bugs ironed out, I think it'll be great. I also think that they should have done a phased rollout and started converting MobileMe users over a couple days before they unleashed all of iOS 5 people on iCloud.

It's not the "cloud". The cloud holds the data, and pushes the stuff down to your devices. When you change that information, the change is then synced up and repushed out to all devices. You aren't grabbing stuff directly from the cloud.
