Don't the maps (especially with turn by turn with Siri) use up a huge amount
of data? How often could people afford to use them anyway without unlimited
plans (or with throttled plans)?

I don't get all of the hate for the new Maps. Granted, it has a few bugs
here (most of which are outside of the US), but the switch to rich
vector-based maps and the turn-by-turn has so many benefits. It isn't like
Apple is going to leave these things hanging out there for all time; they'll
all be fixed in the end. Mapping is incredibly difficult and time consuming
to do right. How many centuries has humanity been trying to get it right?
What I want to know is if Apple's agreement with TomTom and other sources
will allow them to give us an option to download maps. If they're all
vector-based, I imagine the data for a few states is less than a gigabyte.
I would easily sacrifice that space to have maps without a data connection.
If it worked in airplane mode (why turn off GPS in this mode?), more the
better. It'd be rad to watch your flight progress on any iOS device.
