Perhaps you need to spend some time with a book like W. Richard
Stevens' "Unix Network Programming, v1, 2ed (or 3ed)". First, what
do you mean "code ... gets autorouted"? Second, bind() has *no*
effect on routing. Routing is dictated by the destination address
of the packet you want to be sent.
A quick followup to my own post: in lieu of Stevens (which is
probably the best reference there is; the 3rd ed is reportedly as
good as the 2nd, although written/modified by others), there is
Beej's Guide to Network Programming, which gets good reviews from
those who have read it:

Beej does have a very good guide on sockets, but it definitely doesn't
cover what's being talked about in this thread. Beej's guide may be
useful for learning some basic network terminology and the sockets
API, but don't waste your time if you're looking for anything more
than that.
It seemed to me that the OP could use some basic discussion of the API
and terminology related to what he was attempting to work on.

Justin
