Here are some issues I am having. I'm trying to manage 220 iPads.
Some paid apps show the redemption codes. Some don't. Sometimes iMovie shows the codes, sometimes it doesn't. It says 'free', so I cannot install any paid apps.
Last year, I turned on the app "Find my iPad" on the ipads. Since Configurator 1.4 was released, I cannot supervise any iPads with this turned on. It says something like "unable to verify supervision state" because Find my iPad is turned on. However, I must go in and turn the app off manually (to about 150 iPads so far). Why doesn't Apple have Configurator automatically turn it off when supervised?
On some iPads, it won't even allow me to turn off Find my iPad for whatever reason, so I have to restore the iPad to factory settings, and hook up to Configurator again.
Some iPads, when connected, show apps with a check in the box. However, those apps are NOT on the iPad. This has nothing to do with the version, as some iPads in that set have these particular apps.
When I back up to certain images, the wireless password is not installed. So I have to type it in even though the wireless profile is checked.
How do we add redemption codes for iBooks to iPads if we are using the institutional model with 1 account? If I buy 1 redemption code of an ibook per iPad, can I legally put them on manually?

We have had a few iPads that have had screen problems that are supervised through configurator. We decided to use the backup device in configurator
1.4 to backup the device which completes successfully.
When we then connect a new ipad to supervise and restore using the backup file we get an error "unable to decompress archive buffer Error." We have tried this on two separate ipads with two separate backup file and get the same result. Is it not possible to back up and restore using configurator?
Are we missing a step? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

There continues to be contradictory information from Apple and its support staff. Well, may be not anymore.
Just last week I was just told by someone who had an Apple engineer at their site that we should be able to choose to not upgrade a new iPad when preparing it for Supervision in Apple Configurator 1.4. This is still not correct. If you choose the Supervise option in the Prepare step, the drop down menu is greyed out and the "Update when available" is chosen for you.
So we thought that we could get around this by using the Custom iOS" trick. That worked for the first week after iOS 7 was released, but Apple put the kibosh on that by not allowing any new device to be activated unless it is running iOS 7.
So trying to understand what is going on I called Enterprise Support today. Initially the tech told me that we should be able to stay on iOS 7 using the custom iOS preparation trick, but I told her that does not seem to be working. She put me on hold for a long time to "escalate" this issue, but when she came back she said that word from upstairs is WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO UPGRADE TO iOS 7!!!!!
I am just curious what people's reaction to this is? Is there anything we can do? Are all schools and enterprise sites just OK with this and just accepting this strong-arming? This is NOT a minor upgrade. I personally love iOS 7 and have been running it on my personal devices since it went beta, but forcing an enterprise site with 100's (if not 1000's) of devices to upgrade their iOS and inevitably all their apps just seems insane to me. I know for a fact that we can not do MAP testing if running iOS 7, and who knows what other issues we may encounter (there have already been a few pointed out on this site).

Hi Jonathan,
That error is a new one to me. For support assistance with Configurator, please give AppleCare a call:
Enterprise support: 1-866-752-7753
Ask for a case number to continue followup.
Thanks and feel free to let us know what the response/solution is.

Hi Shahin, thanks for the feedback. The desire to manage iOS versions on supervised devices is well understood, but right now I have nothing new to report.
It is certainly the case that the only supported option when enabling supervision in prepare mode is to update to the latest version of the iOS that the device is capable of running.
For devices that are supervised which have not been updated to iOS 7, you are able as always to prevent an update with Configurator by setting the "Update iOS" drop down to "Never Update Device" in the supervise mode settings. There is nothing to technically prevent an end user from initiating an update.
Can you help me understand the MAP testing show-stopper? Where does support break down for that?
Again, I sincerely appreciate the feedback and we here at Apple Education will continue the march of improvement to the user and administrative experience for education deployments of iOS devices.
