Actually, I'm kind-of getting used to OpenBase, but doing it on someone
else's dime; it's not SQL, but it looks very similar ;) I like
FrontBase
(which I used for my personal stuff) a lot. My only two gripes about
it --
and they really are very minor things -- are:
* Lack of a good SQL92 reference -- there are tons of Oracle or WinSQL
(or
whatever it's called) etc., books, but few SQL92 ones, and the ones out
there are a bit ... unwieldy.
Yeah, people who write on standards stuff have a hard time writing
clearly. FrontBase recommends one book, I've never read it.
* I wish I knew a way to launch their sql92 tool with a script, so
that I
could alias shortcuts to launch the tool and immediately connect to
this or
that db.
Have you tried reading the docs? :-)
sql92 <options> <path to script>
I've gone to using Ant tasks in Eclipse to make all my maintenance
tasks a click away.
Still, FrontBase rocks -- and you can't beat the price of the dev
license!
Their support staff is responsive, too! :)
They are so fast it is hard to believe some times.
