I agree that searching archives and checking Google should be done
before going to the list, and in this case both of those were done. I
disagree that reading the source first should be a prerequisite.
A situation where I would have to study the source for hours and
someone else has an answer in less than a minute happens all the time.
I assume that folks that don't have time to respond to mailing list
questions won't do it.
My time can't be wasted unless I let someone else do it.
Anyway, I don't really think this is worth discussing any further since
it's not furthering the technical issue at hand.

Just checking to see if someone has some tips, especially since I
don't think this is documented anywhere (and no, the code itself
can't be considered enough documentation by any reasonable stretch).
I don't come to the mailing list as a 'last resort' to solving
problems with any product. I like the discussion and tips/tricks I
get from other users. We don't all work in a vacuum.
Hm. Actually, we all *work* so our collective time is a rather
precious resource that should not be wasted. I for my part would
vastly prefer if I saw that people actually tried google, mailing list
archives, reading the source and tried every other recourse prior to
asking the list.
In fact this seems general consensus on technical lists, see for
example:
