I just noticed a curious thing: I had Gimp running in X11 and I opened
a file in TeXShop, a regular OSX app. Much to my surpise I noticed
that the "floating labels" (sorry, I don't know what the correct term
is, I mean the labels that appear when you mouse over an icon or
button and that tell what action the icon/button represents) asociated
with elements in Gimp's palettes occur when I mouse over a piece of
text in the TeXShop window. Same thing with an open Save dialog.
Whenever the mouse is at the spot where there is an "underlying"
icon/button in the Gimp palette *and* there is something there (text,
a button) in the upper layer belonging to the other application, these
"floating labels" appear. It's not limited to TeXShop, the same
happens in Mail. (Actually, as I type this I have one of the Gimp
labels right in this message window.) Anyone else notice this?
Yes, sometimes but not always, so I'm unable to say exactly which
action is at the origin of this behaviour.
