X11 newbie problems.

I tried to get an answer out of the "fink-beginners" list, but they
apparently don't think this is their problem, so I'll try here. I
have installed both AbiWord and Gedit, but there seem to be some
things missing that Fink didn't include during the install, despite a
lack of errors:
1) Gedit's "tools" menu doesn't contain anything.
2) Not possible to choose a spell checking dictionary in AbiWord
despite Aspell and gnome-spell having been installed.
I hope someone here can help me with this.
