Given the past history of X11 updates through Software Update, I feel
very fortunate to have such a vibrant OSS community working on this
problem (can i reiterate, "thanks Ben" and all Ben-like persons!).
While I am perfectly content to have updates delivered in this
fashion, I agree that the shipping version of X11 was rife with
problems and would not be suitable for persons who may use X11 more
casually than I suspect some here do. I am sure an update is coming at
some point via official channels, and I'm glad to hear confirmation of
this. Honestly, the shipping version made me a bit nervous that Apple
was somehow phasing X11 support out. To be explicit -- not a good
idea!
