Not here. I see that "bash --login" executes /etc/profile, /etc/
bashrc
and then ~/.bash_profile. There may be something wrong with your
~/.bash_profile or one of the two scripts in /etc/.

I no longer have this problem at least as far as reading ~/.profile
goes. dont use ~/.bash_profile. And when I did have it, typeing login
in the white xterm window and responding to the prompts, did cause
~/.profile to be read and acted upon.
