This has always been the case (I remember Apple keyboards without
Control key; running telnet clients that you had to quit with Ctrl-C was
really fun). And it does not really improve. There is no reason why the
right Command key is hard-wired to give the same keycode as the left one
(Meta-L in X11).
On the other hand they put totally useless keys in strategic places. On
my Powerbook here, there is a key §/± to the left of 1 at the place
where the backtick/tilde key used to be and should be. The §/± key is
non-functional in most applications, and if it is functional (as in this
editor), it produces symbols that are very rarely used. In the 4 years I
have been using this PB, I have never hit it once, except by mistake.
Then there is a separate Enter key which has the same function as the
Return key that is its close neighbor. Totally useless.
I wonder under which rock they dig out their keyboard designers.
