What do you mean that you can now use Terminal.app as if it
were an xterm? That it supports color via ANSI escape sequences?
If so, it has done that for a long time. I am still running Panther on
my PowerPC G5 tower, which has TERM=xterm-color set (by
default, I think).
I use color output in Terminal daily, have for a couple of years,
having written my own much enhanced versions of ls, grep, and
diff that support color (ANSI escape sequences for foreground
and background colors, as well as options for Mac and PC RTF
color and for HTML 4 color, for output to an editor or browser),
for language syntax coloring of output, highlighting strings found,
highlighting context above and/or below, and coloring file names
by type. I never realized how useful color could be until I started
doing all this.
This works on my MacBook Pro running Tiger as well.
