Here's a generic answer then: If you have to ask, it would be too

I was just trying to get a grasp on where things stand before getting
my hands dirty.
Now I sure would feel stupid if I but in the the sweat of porting it
only to find that it has already been ported. I thought this would be
the place to find out.
Of course, I have to seriously wonder WHY anyone would want X on
their phone, but perhaps "just because" is a reasonable enough
answer to that question. I've seen sillier projects undertaken for
less justification. In your shoes, I suspect the best thing to do
is simply wait for someone else to do it.
No offense to Apple, but I know that there are people who actually
prefer X11 over Cocoa. They tend to be more of the Scientist type. I
suspect there is a niche market for someone who might want to run
something like GRASS GIS or some type of science program on a mobile
platform for instance.
