This is with version 251 of xterm (and 2.5.1 ships with the most
recent version, 261). The crash indicates that this is a memory
management issue with the scrollback. It's possible that this bug
was fixed in a newer version, but I am not certain. I looked
through the ChangeLog and didn't see anything between version 251
and 261 addressing memory management in the scollback.
David, my recommendation is to just update and see if the bug
reproduces with the current version.
Thanks, I was able to try this today, and it seems to have fixed
the xterm crashing problem. However, I now have a new problem: In
a local xterm window I ssh to a remote Linux system. On that
system, I run qemu with a graphics console, which was working
before I installed xQuartz, but now I get:
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 25 (X_SendEvent)
Resource id in failed request: 0x47d
Serial number of failed request: 18
Current serial number in output stream: 21
Any ideas on this one? I tried quitting and restarting X, but I
still get the error.
no - I've not seen anything like that. Any clues on how to repeat it?
(platform, resource-customization, locale, etc).
Well, he reported that the xterm error went away when updating to
#261, so that seems fine. This above error is with a different
application (qemu), so it's entirely different and not even in xterm,
so you're off the hook for that one, Tom. ;)
