Now if that X client is (like Gimp) linked with the libraries in
/usr/X11, won't this lead to conflicts?
I can't imagine why. All that counts (or should count) is that the
client and the server speak compatible protocols. How do library
versions enter the picture?
So maybe there is no conflict in the case of an X client in the form of
simple binary executable. But if there is a wrapper script that
communicates with X11 using things like "defaults read org.x.X11" or
"tell application \"X11\" to activate", I can imagine a conflict or two.
