That's the only thing that really stands out in the list ... do you know if you got a notification from Growl around the time of the issue?

I'm glad someone with such conviction is on the case =)

Hmm... interesting...

Well this issue has been occurring since before the update check support was added to XQuartz, but it's possible that the automatic update check is an additional cause of this (although I don't see why since it shouldn't actually be doing anything with windows)

It's highly likely (like somewhere around 100%) that some periodic event is the cause because human activity *isn't* the cause...

FWIW, I usually test XQuartz without sparkle enabled because that is turned on only for released builds, so that's certainly a likely reason why I don't see the behavior with Sparkle (the update framework).

WM is a possible factor, but it's been reported to occur with quartz-wm in rootless mode as well, so I think it may just be more *obvious* in fullscreen because everything flashes away rather than just the window loosing focus for a millisecond.

The Sparkle issue is certainly new, so thanks for mentioning that. Can you file a separate bug report mentioning Sparkle. #58 is probably going to be a bit more challenging, but we can probably figure out how to fix Sparkle (or maybe if we're lucky, it will reveal a way to fix the underlying problem).

Metacity compiles for me in MacPorts.
