I'd appreciate it if you could report what your problems were with 2.7.4. It's really easy to actually disable 2.7.4 and go back to 2.3.6 (just a single launchctl command and relog) if you get into trouble, but I'd like to make sure that we figure out what the problem is.
Happy to, but can you give me a little guidance as to what to look for
(I'm not that familiar with the innards of X - mostly use Mac for
desktop GUI, command line linux on servers; occasionally pop open an
X-window to run server-side stuff that wants to open a GUI - but never
had that much need to learn the ins and outs of X).
The short form of the last go-around:
- installed 2.7.4 from the package
- logged out and in
- tried opening an xterm from a terminal window - the command hung, and
it didn't look like the x server even tried to start up
- tried ssh -X to a remote server, the session hung before connecting
So, before I try the install again, what kinds of things should I look
for to report back (log entries, diagnostic commands)?
