The software update itself (Xcode Update) gives you updated versions of
the following:
Xcode
gdb
distcc
ZeroLink
The software update gives you the minimum set of changes to update to
use Xcode 1.1. The "Xcode Tools 1.1" CD contains additional
improvements beyond this (like Interface Builder and documentation
changes among other things). See the complete list that Godfrey posted
earlier for the major changes in Xcode Tools 1.1.
To provide a little insight into why we have both a software update
just for Xcode and a new Xcode Tools CD at one time it was very
likely that the Xcode Tools CD was not going to be available at the
same time that Xcode 1.1 would be ready and we wanted to get out an
improved Xcode as soon as possible to our users. Also, providing a
software update of Xcode reaches many more users than posting to ADC or
this list about a new Xcode Tools CD and provides a faster download of
the core improvements for this rev of Xcode Tools.
