If we don't see a return of a complete single window mode to Xcode
(like what we had in PB) I would like to hear some suggestions for how
to effectively work with multiple windows, and especially for the case
where you need to work with several branches of a project at the same
time.

I regularly work with four branches of our project concurrently. I like
to keep the main project window with an editor, the run window and the
build window open at all times. That's twelve windows open. The total
number of windows open can be much greater when I need to run project
wide searches through all projects, or run the debugger (two windows
per debugger, as the console is a separate window). Since I only have a
single 23" Cinema Display it gets a bit crammed.

My current solution is to keep the windows of a specific type (editor,
run, build, et.c.) in the same position for all branches, but slightly
offset. This way I can visually pick out a particular window for each
branch and reach them with only one click.

Obviously there's a lot of time spent pixel aligning windows in this
scheme - especially when we create a new branch and I need to
re-position all windows, or when Xcode is upgraded and it discards all
my positioning preferences - and I'd much rather spend my time on doing
actual work.

So, to wrap up, suggestions for how my fellow list members manages
their Xcode windows would be appreciated. This is a missing chapter in
the current crop of tutorials and books... ;)

Thanx,

j o a r
