It's those cute little pix up there in the corner. If the sender has a .mac address, Mail.app will call home to get his picture. It caches them locally, but will check to see if things have changed.

hm, looks like you're right. is there an option in the preferences to deactivate this? there should be. i can live without those pix...


PS. some apple programs, like iTunes, have menu items to send feedback direct to apple. others, like mail, don't have this feature. why? i think that feature should be in all programs...

also, when i want to reply to a message from this list, the sender's address appears in the to: field, and i have to delete that and put in the list's address. in all other mailing lists that i've subscribed to, mail automatically puts the list address in the to: field...
