cvs and xcode

So, I'm somewhat new to xcode. I want to CVS my code to an external CVS
repository. Somewhere I once saw some hints about what the CVS
administrator could do to allow xcode (or was it projectbuilder)
projects to be CVSed. I guess I have a couple questions here:
1. Does xcode support cvs within the project? ie, I see the SCM access
preferences, but I don't know what to do with them.
2. if the answer to 1 is 'yes', can I use this with an external
repository?
3. If I have to do this from the command-line and cvs my entire
project, can people make any recommendations on how to set this up? ie,
is it even possible to CVS a .xcode file? Or, if I just CVS my code
directories, how do I use xcode transparently?
what I mean is if I have
project:
project.xcode
project.1
Code/
And I CVS the Code dir, am I fine as long as I always check out into
the "project" directory, and make sure that my code ends up in the/a
directory called "Code"?
Thanks,
Markian
