According to this helper page:
http://g3d-cpp.sourceforge.net/html/guidemacosx.html
9. Add "-lz" to "Other Linker Flags". This tells the linker to use
the system's version of zlib, which G3D requires.
I have done this successfully on a couple of Linux ports. Not sure if
it is always required though (or why exactly)

According to http://www.gzip.org/zlib/index.html, zlib is already
included on Mac OS X. I ran `locate zilb` and got back the phone
book. Which zlib should my app link to
/usr/lib/libz.dylib
and how do I set that up in Xcode (I've only linked to frameworks to
date)?
There are a few different ways:
1. Locate the file in the Finder and drag it into the project file list
2. Use the "Add existing files" command
Remember, whichever way you do this, Shift-Command-G is your friend.
