That somewhat works--if I toggle the layout, I now DO see the variable
panes correctly (now in the bottom left), with the code in the right
1/2 of the pane). However, toggling back doesn't reset the variable
pane to what it should be when the code's on the bottom.
At least now I know that I can get to a variable pane that's useful,
when I need to. It DOES have something to do with my project,
though--other projects have the "correct" variable pane. I've tried
deleting my "build" folder and rebuilding, but that hasn't helped.
Thanks!

My version of XCode has nothing (blank) above those columns. At the

see the scroll bar disappearing into that band (i.e., cut off), so it
appears I'm not seeing everything). Maybe my XCode has gotten
corrupted and I should delete some prefs?
Would anyone know which prefs would be ones to target?
One way to fix it when that happens is to look under the "Debug" menu
and choose "Toggle Debugger Layout". Select that twice (to toggle it
to the alternate state and back again) then resize the window just a
tiny bit. All of the panels will snap back to where they're supposed
to be.
