I am using VS with a very big C++ project that I have to maintain, a very big code base, which include a lot of .h files (Qt/Orbacus/ SQLAPI/RepEase/Spread7/lua/xerces/xalan), and Visual is lost finding completion, doing a lot of error.

For me code navigation in VS is a nightmare. On the PC I use Copernic to find what I need....

And sincerely Workflow with Xcode for C++ or ObjectiveC code is good for me.

In comparison I made a project with all the sources of my Window/Qt project, installing everything I can on my Mac, and Xcode is able to find symbol without compiling anything... this is a great value for me, and I use it to navigate my PC code... In fact I have the Corba/ lua server part compiled and working under OSX, but I can navigate successfully all over the project sources.

My main requests for Xcode :

1/ Polish it as much as you can to get less bug and slowness.

2/ Show variable value in debug mode when mouse is over active items.

3/ Make Text object (PBSTextStorage and the others) public I ind boring to have to make my own syntax colring/indent system, I have more interesting things to do... Ok, making Xcode open would be fantastic :)

4/ Browse class graph/design full screen, with some inspection in full screen, would be fantastic for big C++ project, coded by not enough lazy guys, the iPhoto full screen mode is the way to go.

5/ Improve the way we can design/code ObjectveC/C++ projects : from/ to graph and code

My 2 cents :)

   Gerard

Xcode works well? That's news to me.

I see none of the performance issues you listed on my PowerMac Quad or MacBook Pro (except for a slow down on really large source files... which you have to wonder why that are that large to begin with).

Regarding (9) you try using DWARF? It greatly reduced the size of
debug and symboled release builds.
