Ah, so it's a hidden feature that doesn't even exist in many
applications. Can't get more obvious than that. ;-)
...every single application I have on my Mac supports it, the finder
has menu a option for it and mac help clearly talks about it in a few
spots...
"Opening applications and documents
To use an application or work on a document, you need to open it.
To open an application or document in the Finder, double-click its icon.
To open an application or document in the Dock, click its icon in the Dock.
To open a document from within an application, choose File > Open and
use the Open dialog to locate and select the document.
If you know the path to the folder where the document is located, you
can press Command-Shift-G and then type the path.
Choose Apple menu > Recent Items and then choose an application or
document from the list.
To change which application opens a document, select the document's
icon in the Finder and choose File > Get Info. In the Info window,
click the disclosure triangle next to "Open with." Choose a different
application to open the document from the "Open with" pop-up menu.
When you're done working, click the Close button (the far-left button
in the top-left corner of the window) to close the document. To quit
an application, choose Quit from the application menu."
Anyway this is getting way off topic for this list...
