Xcode randomly hangs for seconds at a time, and adding new files to
the project takes no less than 20 seconds, sometimes minutes. Even
simple things like opening a C file can take a whole second or two.

Include an Instruments / Shark sample report grabbed when you
reproduce the problem. Output from top is also often helpful, as it
shows over all system activity and memory pressure.
Please also note if there are special files in your project that
trigger the problems - Like a huge file with a ton of auto-generated
code, or something like that.
