To quickly look up an API symbol, you can Option-double-click on the
symbol in the code editor.
What you are probably referring to is the ability to search on the
selected item, which still exists through the "Find Selected Text"
items on the Help menu and on the contextual menu:
If these items aren't on the help menu for you, please file a bug -- I
certainly have no idea why that would happen!

Simple, straight forward, and quick. I assume that that basic
capability remains hidden somewhere in 3.1 but I can't seem to find
it.
