Well, thanks to everyone for trying to help on this. I got a file from
Dec 16 in time machine and I'm going to build from there as it
contains maybe 80% of the file I lost.
Tonight I'll try go run strings on the linux partition:
$> strings /dev/sda2 | grep -A 1000 "element.cpp" > ~/Desktop/output
to see if I get something back out of it. However, I think that the
file is completely gone because xcode probably was saving the file at
the time of the power off.
The time machine is asking me to attach another hard drive (which I
don't have right now). I have only a 150 Gb hard drive to backup my
180Gb mar partition. That doesn't sound right, but that's what I have
right now. Does anyone know a why to replace old backups with new
ones? Because it's not doing automatically for me.
Once again, thank you all for the help.

Disk Warrior is not designed to handle hardware errors, while Data

It's been more than a month since I did a backup, you're telling
me that all that is time lost? There has to be another way.
You *might* get lucky and recover your data, but "has to be"? No.
There are things you can try (a couple of people have already given
you suggestions) but you may or may not get lucky.
You might want to back up your project directory now, even in its
corrupted state, in case other things you try (or even the spinning
of the disk, if it is damaged) corrupt it more.
Two apps I go to when I have disk problems are DiskWarrior <http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
> and Data Rescue <http://www.prosofteng.com/>. DiskWarrior's
reputation is excellent and I believe Data Rescue's is pretty good
too.
The problem and/or solution might not be related to Xcode, so it
may be off-topic for this list. Omnigroup hosts a list that is
more for user issues: http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
. Maybe someone there can help. Take a deep breath and try not to
scream at people.
You might have to resort to a professional data recovery service.
And that's all I'll say, because I think this probably *is* off-
topic.

Hello everyone,
I was working with xcode and my battery run out and the machine
powered off. When I turned the machine back on, and I saw the
file I was working on, it was completely damaged!!! It looks
like a binary file and I think I lost all the C++ code I've been
working over a year.
Can anyone give me any suggestions on what to do???? I really
need that file,
