Dear Chris,

The ppc application indeed launches in Rosetta under Intel,
that's not a problem, even for Xcode 2.5, but I can't use the
debugger.

I recently purchased a MacPro with Intel and Leopard OS.
I was very happy to experience its power, but I' m getting
more and more disappointed, not to say frustrated. I'm
forced to use my (old) PPC Mac for two reasons:
- There is a bug in the Intel Rez tool (as I posted on this list)
- I cannot debug my PPC application.

I know that the solution is to modify the code such that it runs
natively also on an Intel. But that will cost a time investment.
I'm working in a research environment developing algorithms.
So I haven't got so much time to make the transition.
Apple makes the life of a developer very tough each time it
conjures up some new technique/OS, e.g., carbon, quartz, Intel.

BTW: the main reason for using Xcode 2.5 is that I'm still using
Tiger on the PPC Mac.

I just found out why the debugger doesn't launch my application: it's because I'm using only ppc architecture for building the application whereas I'm on an Intel mac. That's very annoying. Is there a workaround for this, except for using an i386 architecture?

More recent versions of Xcode can launch your ppc version in Rosetta under Intel, though debugging is not supported. Newer Xcode versions also have the Active Architecture user interface that makes it easier to set and see what architecture you're building for.

Is there any particular reason you're using 2.5 rather than any of the
six newer versions?

Chris
