I also use Xcode as my editor when working on ANY other kind of
software project as their IDE inevitably forces a one window
approach. I need my SPACE and I always fill it UP!
I totally agree, if you got it USE it! I shelled out on one 32 and to
20 inch monitors and an additional graphics card, having just one
window just so backwards.
Maybe it's a left/right brain thing?

It's not uncommon for me to have 15-20 windows open or even more

also often use open windows as TODOs and close then when the module
has been fully coded and debugged. I have no idea how I would go
about tracking that being restricted to a single window.

I, for one, like the new interface design. I've always used the
"all-in-one" since Xcode offered this layout. My main machine
is a MacBook Pro but even though I could attach a second
monitor to it, I've never done it. It's a 17" and I've learned
to live (and appreciate) it. So, no matter where I go, I know I
have everything on my screen. I agree that they could maybe
have had some kind of layout preferences like the previous
version but, I just wanted to mention that some people like the
new layout...
You never need to look at more than once file at once or look at
email or the web while looking at a source file?
I sometimes do but I use Spaces extensively. Mail is in one
space, Safari is in another, Xcode yet another and I switch very
quickly with Control + the number of the screen I want. Since I
always put Mail and Safari in the same space number, it's easy to
remember. I guess you could say that I'm kinda using additional
monitors, even if they are virtual :-)
This seems like a poor substitute to me, I haven't used Spaces
much, but from what I remember, if you have XCode in Space 1 and
Email in Space 2 and you switch from Space 1 to 2, doesn't all the
windows in Space 1 disappear and Space 2's windows slide in
screen? If so, then you can't actually look at an emal and a
source window at the same time. This is something I could do under
Mac System 7 on my Quadra 950!!!!
I've worked on projects with 1600+ source files and have had to
have 5+ windows open at once.
Cheers
Dave
