Can't install Xcode 4.1 for Snow Leopard

Hello,
I downloaded the "xcode_4.1_for_snow_leopard" disk image image and tried to install the SDK on my iMac running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
However, the installer runs for several minutes and tells me that the install was successful but then there is no developer folder. Looking at the install log it seems that the installer extracts the content into a temp folder and then deletes the temp folder again and that's it. The available disk space indicator is conform with that: during installation it goes down from 111 GB to 109 GB and afterwards back to 111 GB.
This is really strange. What can I do?
