I wonder if the UI changes were dictated by the fact that Jony Ive is now the arbiter of things UI?
No more skeumorphic things. Perhaps the Xcode engineers were directed to make those changes?

Just speculation on my part since I never DL new stuff until it has fermented in the barrel for a while ;}
