People disagree about what “better” means, especially when it comes to subjective stuff. (Case in point: I think Xcode 5 looks a lot better than Xcode 4.) Occasionally, when people talk with each other, they can understand the problem better, or see areas about the issue that they were not privy to.
I don’t see a lot of that in the many, many, many long-running Xcode bitch threads over the past years. Mostly it’s just people flaming, and repeating the same damn points over and over again. I’ve lost count of how many times you’ve brought up the animations in the UI (sometimes derailing a completely unrelated thread.) It’s not productive.
I disagree! I find it productive to know I'm not the only one suffering and the only that can see, feel and smell the madness! On quite a few of these kind of threads I've found someone has come up with a way of defeating or making something work and in this very thread is has already occurred.
For this alone the thread was with it!
If you’ve been an Apple developer for any length of time you’ll know that Apple is not super interested in outside feedback on their UIs. As I’ve pointed out here many times (and I know this from having worked at Apple) the people with authority to make high-level design decisions do not read these mailing lists and don’t care about what individual people say in them. (Some of the UI designers I worked with barely even cared what the engineers developing the product thought.)
UI complaints here are just going into an echo chamber and annoying the rest of us who just want to get work done and discuss technical issues.
I can't talk for anyone else but I couldn't care less whether Apple read or take any notice of this list or not. I don't do it for Apple's sake, I do it for my own sake. If Apple can't see a croc of an UI then why should I care? I get paid by the hours it takes me longer to do things in XCode 4+ so why should it bother me? I love it!
But really, moaning about XCode here, IMO does serve a purpose, however I really can't figure out what purpose moaning and moaning serves?
All the Best Dave
