People disagree about what “better” means, especially when it comes to subjective stuff. (Case in point: I think Xcode 5 looks a lot better than Xcode 4.)

This is very true, but on my monitors the white look really does hurt the eyes, it really should be an preference IMO! 

But besides all that, it isn't that they have made it look white, it's because the whole thing is just fundamentally wrong and at odds with the way a lot of developers work or expect from an IDE from a company like Apple. It's a fact that Apple really aren't that good at Development tools. I've thought it about it a lot of the years and I've never really worked out why that is? 

The other thing is why take away functionality or restrict it or seemingly no reason other than the whim of the engineer or so it seems. I can't see how this could be deemed as "better" by anyone.
