I checked in the raw source and it didn't used the wished encoding.
The different behaviour is perhaps linked to the used processor. I'm using a G5 machine. Maybe it works correctly on MacIntel machines.
I already met some oddities of this kind (which are not related to AppleScript).
Here is the line from your post I am replying to:
Content-type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; delsp=yes; format=flowed
So it's working! BTW, I'm using a PPC for a few days. If there are characters in the message body outside the ASCII range my posts seem to always be in UTF-8.
