I searched this, yesterday, and found that:
1. Connect to Server via ftp always mounts the disk as read only.
    (Apple designed it that way.)
2. Connect to Server via WebDAV is "available" but always "fails to connect".
    (There are support documents at Apple which describe how to do it.)

If I mount the disk via ftp using Transmit, the disk mounts as read write.
And continues to work correctly after Transmit is QUIT.

This is no longer an AppleScript problem. And I'm not sure, yet, exactly what kind of problem it is.
